Test FormEdit’s PatentForms with the following document:
Transmittal Form SB-21 rev 11-07.dot
Q: Are your forms the same as the USPTO forms?
A: Yes. The USPTO forms are professionally converted from the PDF format into .doc files.
Q: Can the forms be customized?
A: Every form can be customized by the user as desired. By simply selecting “Tools” on the Menu Bar, then selecting “unprotect” the file can be edited and saved as a custom template. This feature is especially useful to incorporate correspondence information into the form, without having to re-enter it every time.
Q: Can a completed form be saved?
A: Yes. Any form that has been completed can be saved as its own file.
Q: Do I need to pay for each attorney user of the forms?
A: No. The terms of the license for FormEdit’s PatentForms covers all users within a company or law firm. (Government entities - we are happy to provide FormEdit’s PatentForms, but please contact us to discuss your special terms.)
Q: Do you limit the sale of your forms to certain companies or law firms?
A: No. We are happy to provide our forms to some of the largest companies, government entities, and the smallest law firms in the United States and Canada. Our price makes the forms easy to use and affordable to everyone.
Q: My firm used to use FormEdit, what do we have to do to get current forms?
A: All situations vary. Please contact us at the e-mail addresses listed to discuss your company’s specific issues.
Q: Who are you guys?
A: We are practicing attorneys who heard secretaries, paralegals, patent agents, and patent attorneys complain too many times about outdated forms and the time it took to keep them current.
Q: What is FormEdit’s track record?
A: As we start our ninth year of providing patent forms, we have never received any notice from any client that our forms were rejected by the USPTO due to a deficiency in the forms.
Q: What are your forms compatible with?
A: While all systems are different, our forms are compatible with MS Word© (from Word 97© forward). Other word processing programs which use or read the .doc file extension may not read the files or convert them correctly. Because every system is different, we urge all customers to download and test the sample form on the left of the page to verify usability on your own system.
Q: I need my forms now. How soon can I get them?
A: Normally, upon receipt of your order, we will provide a Password and User ID within 48 hours. If you have a specific concern about receiving the forms, e-mail us at accounts@patentforms.com.
Q: Can I pay by credit card?
A: No. FormEdit only accepts checks and money orders at this time.
Q: Will the forms work on my printer?
A: We have tested the forms on a number of laser and ink-jet printers. Because every system is different, we urge all customers to download and test the sample form on the left of the page to verify usability on your own system. Some printers require adjustments to the margins to print correctly.
Q: What is your referral program?
A: We know the best advertisement is the referral of our product by a current customer. We are currently offering a $50 gift card from a variety of merchants to current customers who have referred a new customer to FormEdit. There is a place on the OrderForm to indicate the referral. There is no limit to the number of referral rewards a current customer can receive.
Q: How come you don’t provide weekly updates?
A: It has been common for the USPTO to offer “temporary” forms until “officially” approved forms with an extended form approval deadline. After nine years in this business, we have found that it is both confusing as well as impractical to offer continuous “temporary” changes. It both increases the cost of the product and administrative delays to users who are constantly reviewing their versions on every computer as each week passes to confirm each form is the same.
Q: It looks like there are some differences when the .PDF file from the USPTO and your forms. Why?
A: All document programs have limitations in their ability to adjust margins, insert files, include macros, etc. These are simply the limits of the .doc file extension. Because the USPTO forms are .PDF files, they are like a picture and when we convert the files to the .doc extension, not every brush stroke can be copied exactly. Do not worry, we have had each form reviewed by the licensed patent attorney and confirmed they are acceptable for filing, as provided, with the USPTO.
